Few neighbourhood communities and schools are identified to carry out these activities. Special orientation is given to the students and the staff-in-charges of the activities before reaching the community.
We have planned to conduct a series of confidence building workshops from the forth coming academic year 2011-2012 onwards to the staff and students involved in such activities sothat they can do the community service in an excellent way. The type of programme is 'Skill and capacity building - A community development perspective' and it is training cum field based programme and is multi disciplinary in approach. Dr. S. Venkatraman, Senior Programme Officer, UNESCO, Nairobi, Kenya, is the Resource person and Director of the workshops and Dr. R. Sophia Porchelvi, Associate Professor in Mathematics, is the convener of the workshops.
120 second year under graduate students from all the major departments have been selected for the training programme which will be conducted twice a year (July and December) and the same set of students when they come to third year will be given training as well as practical assignments/ field work. The Resource Person, Coordinators, Staff in charges and all these students are all linked as a web team for carrying out the activities successfully.
